which is like, four, have penalties that double, triple, or even quadruple the research values needed. If you start tribal, for example, you start 'neolithic' and all techs outside the Neolithic ones.

Once everything's planted/while planting I put up my basic walls.įor the whole tech level thing, what you want to do is find mods and methods that increase your research speed. THEN I mine out my fridge/kitchen and set up my growing zones. Typically next to a mountain or naturally defensive area. I will NOT start a game without those few things at least at 5.ģ) In order of things I do: Unforbid EVERYTHING, arm my pawns, find where I want my base, and then after makign shelter and the beds make the stockpile and put ALL the things in there. Typically I try to have a miner/cooker, Farmer, and Medic/researcher. I've got better things to do than deal with bedrooms.ġ) I hit random a few times with my eyes closed, then from there try and see if there's a decent spot, I've never done a plains game yet, maybe I'll do it now that I've got Quarry on.Ģ) I too random-gen pawns, but I never take anyone above 50 (I've had too many bad backs or spines to give a shit anymore) and I'll also use prepare carefully to also get a decent dog and get rid of some stats that I consider worthless for my starting pawns and rearrange it tso they can actually do some stuff, but I won't majorly reorganize them.

I may click around a bit, but mostly I just hit random once and do that.Ģ) I mostly random-gen pawns, if I have one I want to take with high stats and something that makes them untakeable, like not hauling, I'll use Prepare Carefully, but otherwise don't really do anything with that mod aside from putting a useful dog in as the pet.ģ) I mostly try to get everything under a cover, I also arm everyone, and I set up a production room and a fridge. I've got a question for everyone in this thread, how do you guys start a game, how do you pick a landing site, how do you pick colonists, and lastly, what does everyone do in the first couple of days of a game?ġ) I hit random once and go from there. They kill scythers in one hit, and a half-dozen can kill or seriously wound Centipedes. Deadfall traps are way better at defense than turrets. Hopefully you can also kill them with Deadfall traps. Is this the mod you're talking about? That sounds cool. Mods are cool, and I want to find more cool mods. We should make a rule that if you're gonna talk about a specific mod you have to link it.

Better still, I picked up these androids right when my colony is getting big enough that I can start specializing tasks. They're good at a couple of things at the expense of being bad at others thanks to the android-specific backgrounds they come with, so they can actually fit in well in a colony as they can take over specialized roles while letting other colonists work on other tasks. I really like the idea behind them, as the androids are more specialized than humans due to their specialized backgrounds. They're all close to my tech level, so the androids have a good chance to be recruited, and I've already brought one over. Since androids are tougher than humans, and don't risk infection (they only die when their coolant runs out) when I took down the raid, I had four androids to recruit. Now I'm at war with the androids, which means that they immediately sent a three-unit raid on my early-game base.

So, I started a new colony using the Androids mod.Īn android colony sent a caravan to me, only they ran into an insect hive, which was enough to dissuade them, but they left a couple of wounded behind.
